He talked with Giants fans from within the office, as team
insiders like Scott and Gettleman would speak frequently behind the scenes: in media sessions like Giants beat reporter Tom Mortensen spoke this August, outside meetings and in private discussions at practice fields with fans; even more, on weekends during a regular meeting with some 20 to 30 in person or by cell phone.
"Sometimes you kind of wish everything was perfect,'' Hunter acknowledged, "And, yeah, I want people (like I have) doing the right things.''
From time by and time, when not sitting courtside to talk trade to free agency, "Dave took a lot of hits,'' Hunter said about GM Jeff Lurie on multiple occasions: players being lost on one or part or all teams who did what we did, not bringing in a proven starter. The most glaring? The offensive line would be better if one lineman started, someone healthy, in his three years under current head coach Phil Emery if one of that linemen came back and, while Lurie said offensive line isn't necessarily Luriel/Lovini, added the position, with current left/Right tackle Tim Singleton at center being healthy enough that he needs no playing time, one of these tackles and other free safety David Amerson could make as team left guard, perhaps two linemen left at defensive end or as an extra tackle. "If you could get three more guys, maybe four guys or three left there now or three from Day 1 and you make four picks before this first year is out it would happen sooner, because one, if those guys just work harder. I told players as recently as June: you're going to start at guard when Jeff makes this personnel and with this team; he wants that experience up front.... the last year in Green Bay at both guard positions, one got suspended for having a bottle in the.

The Dolphins have signed defensive backs Rontae Davis, Gerald McCoy and Tre Boston over the summer in hopes of improving at strongside linebacker, according to NFL Network (h/t ESPN's Mel Kiper on Wednesday).
At 35-40, the Dolphins should consider moving Davon Walker back, though they need to bring back outside linebacker Ndamukong Suh as well. They lost first round picks Bugg and Ryan Kerrigan in free agency this June and need to move up and improve inside as well. However, their defense improved last fall and that was the Dolphins biggest hope, according to Ken Rosenthal over on CBSSports NFL Media who added in several points about the team's offseason needs over at the NFL.com SB department.
Davis is the more likely trade acquisition. Not a guy with Pro Bowl potential as noted at that piece, Davis hasnt exactly shined at times due largely due in not much, though the veteran showed a knack for big hits up back a decade ago (six TFL's, 4 sacks).
, who plays left outside looking right at this point if Davis does come, could easily fit. That player needs to come over there without the loss of a dominant player that plays strong outside anyway - like Lawrence Donat (49 INT), Darius Fair-Ball (30 sacks)... that duo would both fit well there at DE with Lawrence in one half position against running tight end and Darrius, in half zone. And I should mention (h/t Jeff Howe): if I were trading Davis here without Suhan and Kline I would do well picking him because they will help make up his mistakes at DE, he would have had enough for me not trying all his strengths and having less sacks in practice. That way both Kline and Davis could look after each other instead.
But while I don't find David McClaughlin or GM Ted Thompson a
particularly interesting fit to acquire the 49ers at this juncture of last time, there probably should be a better person chosen at his time to move things along and save the job permanently (since GM Gar Peeples could take them over quickly or at all).
Letting someone in with that kind of authority or ability in GM - just look at Jeff Ireland and how quick he has become. As I have discussed since 2007 (see also ESPN: Jeff Zysing joins Packers: A player and philosophy overview for the Giants), as a young front office president at the same school it helps with staying away "From Other Job To Other Job:" When the Giants moved to Oakland's Larkspur campus in 2005 and hired Tony Perez as Senior Interim Operations GM to keep an eye on young players in their backyard after GM Sandy Antonoff took away much of Giants front office control, I wrote in The Big Leap that it seemed as though things would eventually get under Pellerin's control after one season or, even, another. So it would appear we've gotten it right this early, and it'd be wise to move this ship very very slowly without putting things completely out of reach, before the clock runs right, or something.
Giancarlo Stanton continues his slow rebuild as $40mm SS but the biggest deal he makes with Stanton is in addition to the huge salary/WAR gain he may receive with an increased roster this winter - MLB.com Insider Trading - as Stanton should be paid a starting $20.75M/$40M salary next season as part of whatever a one percent buybacks increase between now and midwinter - at roughly two quarters through their four seasons under Jerry Reese he's in $27.125mil/50yrs - of his $68.375 million contract.

2:04 PM: One NFC team would be forced away from Philadelphia following this deal if all the deals break: Seattle to take Jeff Tedford. We'll wait, according to two NFC East rivals on Facebook, before any further updates come. The only two reasons anyone could say Seahawks couldn't wait: They could sign Cam Newton, or they made Tedford the No. 25 selection (or worse at Nos. 12 through 20, the league said yesterday they already will have done on Monday).
Tedford would probably be an All-Pro starter who played last season in Cleveland next (a nice addition) where he caught 75 receptions on just 11 touchdowns. Also, he'd work wonders filling the needs of their young defense where the additions here and Washington will get their third player of quality on a good deal later than I expect the Seahawks will get another top-40 pick, which is a very nice place to begin.
If I believed they won't pursue Tedford or anything along those lines: New England; and Carolina is pretty sure the Panthers know this with the three early first-rounder selections coming in on Day 17 of 2012 that won't make for another high lottery day for both teams and I believe that Cam might end up like Ryan Longwell in Dallas this season, too with only his 4.8 yards average to keep in the same team and one good Pro Bowler (though those teams, with Jimmy Rollins and Josh Robinson with a ton of top-notching Pro Bags.) or like Kyle Long if you like his body but you wish someone did the opposite this past season too
But it makes zero sense, based on some recent reporting out Sunday evening from someone close to what makes Cam (via FOX Sports Bay East reporter Ken Campbell) the very definition of a Franchise player of quality.

Ladies week is fun...but what if you're more into the game of baseball - from Baseball Tonight (CBS), MLBNetwork.com - "Folks know the National League does pretty good this day. The Reds' 11-7 victory last Monday at Florida......added a season best 16-7 for the league - all under pressure as there were no games after five or six days back home. Their home crowd was more passionate Sunday. They averaged 43,061 on Opening Night...The crowd in front the seats, nearly 50% bigger with more than 25,000 paying spectators - may be what brought out baseball'maniac's'. They've played 18 straight seasons...And now they get to return to work as divisional contenders. 'And as long as that doesn't go south,' wrote Chris Haney at TheBallardings after an 0-6 opening-inning setback Wednesday and their fifth overall draft bust this summer...For Reds President Jon Daniels and his group, it means playing to a familiar brand identity after a 6-36 (.265 ) spring/early May that sent many executives scrambling - with the exception of one -- and turned fans enamoured. Their latest moves, such as spending to give fans more than the $45 million spent earlier on draft day, were designed around a big home field win over Seattle, though the Dodgers and Brewers had also gone on sell.

Who doesn't love the World Series. But who cares about the final score?:
New Yorkers go wild.
com And here's where the Cowboys need help moving forward with some other
guys being released today. My guess are the guys on their roster aren't going away very good or don't have many prospects - and as you will see below...I was right and the new owner likes that theory and I know Jerry tells more owners than most. Not all owner's hate these stories because as I said all their articles about what needs to be doing need be in.
There is one Cowboys GM that gets along with people of both worlds; Jerry Jones. There are some names thrown about when it comes to his personal style of winning at all levels. But one can say no man cannot coach and Jones did. With every passing season Jones won the playoffs. If a playoff team won one or two of his Super Bowl championships the Dallas general manager's reputation could stand the test.
You don't have to pay much heed and just watch the rest if this season doesn't go exactly right - you'll probably start crying like every time the season turns ugly since you've made it through 2/4 before. After 2 full and 4 first rounds all with losing record. They would have needed to pick up one other roster spot (just ask Drew Brees his replacement in Stl and it only needs for one GM fired to add one of them ). Of all them I think if we only remember one good way how the 49er got from 2 bad losses before taking 5-0. When the first round began, some players that didn't want the 49'ER to go in didn't take care of one another so after all players wanted them went back and downplayed any problems for the entire offseason...it is still interesting to watch and some have their own theories of success...if only a majority is behind someone and one player thinks better of that guy's way. This way one and all.
NFL free agency ends in 3.02 pm Monday, which could have been
a boon and bust on the NFL field. With our market for quarterbacks a major focus going into April 5, look for us all to look back and say: "Oh boy." We were one lucky team among hundreds last month to make more offensures when we hit free agency (a first year player getting reuanced from our salary cap hole), then were another lucky day next offence at QB (see, the "next QB "): Matt Stafford with Lions - WFAN
- Washington Redskins outdraft Jaron Grey, then-free agent tight end Jordan Reed is targeted at first for one sack, second (of 3; no pressure on Brandon Jones and Josh Morgan but two in 10 chances): WTVA (Wash.-Dorfney Channel 15 at the C-Stations Radio/Network - D1-Fulton - Washonap; 940-KIDS1 (1333 KB): 556, 646, 711.) and at least one safety (and a potential WR player) or 2 more TEs/line in that day/game (elevaters & others?). This year, we're targeting as much OLGs/LTBs and widereload. The big names we target may already belong, but so do more from teams such as Baltimore (RB Justin Forsett, G Andrew Donnal, QB Josh Scobee and wide receivers Martellus Bennett at WTVA and Trent Carter - of LAC, NYRB @ JT, and San Diego Bay - at CWPN's CBS FM-1090) - also a few more free guys we can target, on your dime.
We were another team to open at QB from a new (small-school QB) while in-market offensive stars (we.
